Equipping Ministry Leaders For Child Abuse Allegations
Tuesday, May 13, 2025 (2:00 PM - 3:30 PM) (EDT)
Description
What should ministry leaders do to best prepare for and respond to child abuse allegations? Planning is key, but each situation is unique, potentially perilous, and best handled proactively. This webinar will equip attendees with ministry support tools to assist front-line leaders in key areas including the following: mandatory and permissive reporting, with related prudential aspects; clergy privilege and how it impacts reporting; engagement with law enforcement; ministry handling of allegations, such as information to be obtained and investigation-related pitfalls to avoid; victim care and other compassionate outreach; attorney involvement; crisis management and appropriate disclosure; potential personal liability issues; insurance coverage and claims; and what measures to take after these issues arise, such as for improved screening, training, supervision, and leadership engagement.
This webinar will feature attorneys Ginny Cronin and Sally Wagenmaker engaged in lively dialogue and chock-full of practical guidance from the trenches of ministry-related legal work. Question and answer time will be provided, as well as related resources including from the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention. Through this webinar, ministry leaders can gain insights for both keeping the vulnerable safe and responding in a Christ-honoring way when trouble arises.
