A code of conduct is a formal, policy-type document which outlines the ministry’s ethical and behavioral expectations and rules for leaders, employees, volunteers, board members, and anyone that may be representing the organization. A code of conduct is an important tool in educating your team for the purpose of ensuring ethical, legal, and behavior that meets the values and beliefs that shape the core identify of the ministry.
For Christian leaders, a code of conduct will typically reflect biblical and moral guidelines that help to build trust and shape culture. Regarding child and youth protection and abuse prevention, a code of conduct is critical at communicating clear expectations that set the leader or team member up for success in their role.
In this day and age, codes of conduct are becoming common place and may include adherence to a statement of faith, lifestyle positions, ethical behavior including social media and often times defining inappropriate technology, messaging, and interaction, especially when minors, vulnerable adults, and other key leadership expectations are established.
